WORKSHOP SKILLS: choosing scat syllables, finding notes (i.e. melodic development), counting bars, singing over changes, front and back phrasing, syncopation, hearing the tonal center

The Jazz Fundamentals I workshop provides time and space to practice scat singing and improvising with an experienced coach and other supportive singers. Singers learn scat singing techniques that really work while getting “voice-on” experience trying them out. We will discuss and practice syllable choice, personal language, and choosing notes (hint: it’s not about how many scales you know). Learn more. Fun and instructive as a stand-alone workshop, this 90-minute session is also a great primer or review for Jazz Fundamentals II.
