SINGERS’ SCAT OFF
October 8, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$15SINGERS’ SCAT OFF
Hosted by Maryann Sullivan
Join us for an evening of top-flight jazz as five scat-tastic singers explore melody, phrasing, rhythm and rhyme.
Introduced at this summer’s Jazz Festival, the SINGERS’ SCAT-OFF brought together a diverse and talented group of jazz singers to sing, swing and SCAT!
An unmistakable element of vocal jazz, scat singing is one of the ultimate forms of jazz improvisation. From abstract to lyrical and percussive to playful to profound, each of these vocalists brings a signature sound to present a collection of scat singing styles as unique and varied as the vocalists themselves.
Audience members will be invited to choose a scat singing champion after seeing each singer in action, individually and in duets, trios and the final SCAT OFF.
Backed by a seriously swinging trio, these vocal musicians will take the stage at Jazz Central Studios – Saturday, October 8th. Maryann Sullivan will MC the evening.
THE SCAT OFF SINGERS:
– Dorothy Doring (Who Nu, Twin Cities Cabaret Artists Network)
– Sarah M. Greer (BLU-7, Give Get Sistet)
– Jana Nyberg (The Jana Nyberg Group)
– Vicky Mountain (MacPhail)
– Jason Peterson DeLaire (The Peterson Family)
with Ted Godbout on keys (PaviElle, Hayden Fihn Quintet, Casey O’Brien Trio, Witch Hunt), Jim Chenowith on bass and Rodney Ruckus on drums.
One night only! Don’t miss this special event.
