Welcome.

I am excited to reprise a series of workshops that I created for singers with many skills and experience levels.

As a singing instructor, it is my job to help you meet your singing goals – whether you are a new singer looking for places to practice and meet other singers or a regular performer looking to build new skills. Group singing events give us chances to sing, play and collaborate with others. I have seen first hand how much singers in a group can learn from one another.

These three Saturday workshops will provide space and practice for singers who want to start scat singing, for singers who want to more advanced scat singing techniques and for those who want to dive into vocal improvisation (circle singing).

Package pricing (see sidebar at right) and student pricing are available. I invite you to take a look through the offerings below and get in touch if you have any questions.

As always, I hope to sing with you soon!

singingly,
sg

Scat Singing Fundamentals I:
Starting to Scat Sing

Saturday, May 30th, 2015 - 1:30 to 4:00 pm

WORKSHOP SKILLS: scat syllables, melodic development, front and back phrasing, song form basics, syncopation, feeling groove, hearing the tonal center, vocal percussion

The Scat Singing Fundamentals I workshop provides time and space to practice scat singing and improvising with an experienced coach and other supportive singers. Singers learn scat singing techniques that really work while getting “voice-on” experience trying them out.

This updated workshop includes more singing time and more work on the fundamentals – syllable choice, personal language, and choosing notes (hint: it’s not about how many scales you know). Singers also work with groove and feel and learn the basics of vocal percussion. Learn more.

“Great job leading us – you are obviously very experienced, and gifted at what you do – both in teaching AND in singing! I have already recommended you to all my friends. Thank you, thank you!” – Brooke

Guest instructor, fantastic vocalist and jazz pianist Jennifer Parker joins the workshop as we continue to practice the skills taught in Scat Singing Fundamentals I (vocal colors, personal language, front/back phrasing, etc.).

In Fundamentals II, we add working with song forms, specifically the 12-bar blues and rhythm changes and Jen and Sarah will coach three (3) participants during the workshop on a song of their choice. (Personal coaching is first come, first serve.) Learn more.

“Sarah can read the group’s needs and offer exercises to take it to next level. The process itself is enjoyable and growthful, and when it’s all over, you’ll want to come back for more.” — Ann D.
